SO MA TO / 走馬灯

Just as the flame is about to go out, une vie entière défile devant les yeux. Flickering, shifting, comme des images tournoyant à l’intérieur d’une lanterne de papier. Images of a life unfolding. Vaccillants, changeants.

Au Japon, cet instant porte le nom d’une ancienne lanterne tournante, an ancient revolving lantern : 走馬灯/SO MA TO.

Two old women, deux vieilles femmes, gather fragments of their memories et les laissent peu à peu prendre voix. In this non-verbal piece, le corps devient langage, 身体言語, accompanied by live music as memories rise to the surface.

Inspiré par l’univers envoûtant du cinéma de Hayao Miyazaki, 走馬灯/SO MA TO creates a space where everyday reality et le monde des esprits s’entrelacent, 現実と精霊 の世界, the unseen worlds of spirits intertwine with reality: paper lanterns, berceuses lointaines, the face of someone who is no longer here, le visage d’un être qui n’est plus là.

Le passé s’ouvre peu à peu, comme une pièce dans laquelle nous pouvons tous entrer. The past opening doors and inviting us in.

Created by an international team of artists and profondément ancré dans la culture japonaise, 走馬灯/SO MA TO is a poetic, non-verbal performance, un voyage entre mémoire, corps et disparition, 記憶と 身体、pour tous les âges. A poetic performance for all ages.
